Associate Professor Dr. Samniang Leurmsai, is the Director of Sanskrit Studies Centre, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, from 2012 to present. He is also a member of the Administrative Committee of the Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University. Earlier, he was the Director of SSC for two terms (eight years) during 2001 to 2008. Dr. Samniang Leurmsai, when young, was ordained as Buddhist novice and later Buddhist monk to study Pali and Buddhist theology in monastery for many years. He acquired the Highest grade in Pali in Thailand known as Thai Ecclesiastical Education, Pali Level IX in 1987 and received his Bachelor's Degree in Religions from Mahachulalongkornravjavidyalaya University, Bangkok in 1988. He was also selected as A Dhamma-duta by The Thai Buddhist Sangha and was sent to USA for serving the cause of Buddhism. He received his Master's degree in Sanskrit from Silpakorn University, Bangkok in 1992 and got Ph.D. in Sanskrit from Banaras Hindu University, India in 1997. He wrote his thesis on the topic: "A Critical and Comparative Study of the Bhagavadgita and the Suttanta Pitaka." Apart from being Buddhist scholar, his interest lies in Sanskrit literature. He had translated Buddhist Sanskrit texts into Thai and published many books, such as Saundarananda Mahakavya, Buddhacarita Mahakavya and Mahavastu-Avadana, etc. Dr. Samniang Leurmsai has travelled wildely around the world to study culture and exchange his knowledge from Sanskrit Studies.
